Valley of the Nomads, Kashmir, India

A flashback to my recent trip to India where I visited, among other places, the state of Kashmir. In Kashmir I traveled to what is commonly known up there as the Valley of the Nomads.  This woman, a nomad, kindly posed for me in the wooden house where she and her family stay when the descend from the mountains in the spring and summer.

Notice her blue eyes.

It looks like bare bones shelter, but I guess it's better than nothing. Nomads, by definition, would travel light. Right?

Oh. Wow. A Nat Geo pic.

Last night our opera company premiered an work based on Salman Rushdie's Shalimar the Clown, and so mostly set in Kashmir. I would so love to visit the place.
