Moskva, Mimosa, and Mailbox!

I posted something about Hotel Moskva here , and just recently mentioned it here. I took this photo through a window of a department store across the street a few days ago. Belgrade still looks pretty gray, but you can see a mimosa seller on the lower left of this photo, right next to another mailbox I found!

About the hotel: Hotel Moskva is a four star hotel and the only hotel in Belgrade that has no room or apartment number 13. It has had over 36 million visitors in the past 100 years, including celebrities like Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, Yves Montand, Robert de Niro, Jean-Paul Sartre, Miloš Forman, Yasser Arafat, Ray Charles, Richard Nixon, and Rebecca West, to name a few.

Check it out on Youtube ! And check out Marie's and many other Postcard Friday postings by clicking here .

The place to stay!

Lovely photo. Love the wide esplanades. I guess I'll have to stay here, now. You know, to add to the non-celebrity list.

It's a good spot for taking photos, isn't it?! :-)

I'm impressed with the wide streets and sidewalks, which is quite a difference from how it is in Boston. If I ever make it to Belgrade I will make it a point to stay at the Moskva.

I love this photo! It gives me a sense of what the streets of Belgrade really look like (well, this part, at least).

I have to remember to take a longer view sometimes and not just focus on particular buildings and such. Thanks for this!

Nice vantage point! I see Moskva, I spy the mimosa seller, I spy the mailbox (kind of like playing where is Waldo)... and I spy the Golden Arches. My mom had a friend in Belgrade who was crazy for Big Macs - we could not understand that with all the great burek and cevapcici that he could eat instead.

PS - I meant to leave a comment on the 'back seat' photo - I liked it too very much - the lone figure, the color & the stone of the building. I have many back seat photos esp. lately from our trips to the soaring field. Got a good one at the San Andreas fault zooming past on Hwy 14.

Hello from an American in British Columbia, Canada. I stopped by because I saw you listed on Tash's blog post (along with my name) as an ex-pat from Southern California. I ended up moving to another country, but not quite a remote as you did. Belgrade sounds very interesting and not what I would expect. I invite you to stop by my blog and see what life is like in a floating cabin on a remote lake. - Margy

Amazing! I would like to spend a few days in this hotel. Is it very expensive?
Congratulations! Your award is waiting for you in my blog.

I like very much such old hotels having a sumptuous history! Have a nice week-end in the beautiful city of Belgrade! :-)

Overflowing image and I agree with Tash about the vantage point. I worked on hotels in my youth and no 13 room or floor occurs a lot in the UK. The mimosa is a cheery spot of yellow tucked in the left of this picture postcard.

As I scrolled down the picture I thought I was looking at a vintage postcard - then I saw the late model cars. Mimosa! Pretty dash of color to your grey day!

SUNSET

A beautiful urban sunset over New Belgrade. The 'smoke' from the stacks on the left is actually just steam from the heating plant....
