when I grew up in NYC the fire escapes were our "patio" in the summer. Loved sitting out on them, it was so great!

this is wonderful, yup you see all sorts of activity happening on these in movies.
I lived at 7 East 17th before Union Square was trendy in any way and never did even the outside of our building then look so nice. I was afraid our fire escape wouldn't even help if we had a fire...although we did grill on it a few times. This is a great photo. What progress over the years.
Very colourful! I only saw black and grey ones when we were there.
