SKYWATCH FRIDAY --Mama stork cools baby

This is a mother stork who appeared to be cooling her baby (babies, perhaps; but I only saw one) by beating her wings furiously above their nest. Storks are said to bring good luck to the house they nest on.

See other skies and perhaps a bird or two at SKYWATCH.

I love the way the nest is constructed.

A beautiful shot with Maman storch. It is always nice when birds nest near. I have a native crested pigeon couple. They are always around and nest in one of the trees. Their nest is very rudimentary. Usually they are rearing one baby, to many hazards and predators.

Looks like it is dancing and reminds me of native dancers here. What a shot! I love this capture. I only know of these from fairy and folk stories from childhood. It is nice to see a real one through your lens.

Hi Bibi,

Are You sure that this is not a baby stork practicing flying routine?
From the photo it seems that its beak is too small for an adult stork.

For the reference see some of my stork pictures taken a few weeks ago.

No matter what, it is still a great capture! Congrats!

Cheers!

Wonderful, Bibi! I don't believe I've ever seen one of these, either.

Hello, Vladimir.

No, it was mom. She was feeding her baby (like I said, only saw one small one in the nest) and then a it later started flapping!

Thanks for the explanation Bibi. Guess it's a teen mom then :)
Very small beak misguided me to think that it is an offspring in the photo.
I had a great expirience with storks as I've stumbled upon one with broken wing and leg, so i've caught it and took her to a Vet.
(photos from the previous link). All ended well. Now this mama stork has it's little babies too.

Like i've said, whatever it is - great photo you have!

A lovely photo, Bibi! But I always thought storks brought babies, not good luck!

You really captured the graceful motion of her wings.

PICKLED RED ONIONS

My grandmother used to make these around Thanksgiving and now so have I.  Great as a tart side, in salads, or in a leftover turkey sandwic...
