SKYWATCH--shades of Edgar Allan Poe

Can you hear the crack of thunder and see the flash of lightning? There wasn't any, of course, since this is a winter photo and those phenomena usually don't occur in the winter. Perhaps this crow, perched on a very gnarled tree, reminds you of this previous post of mine?

This does remind me of something Edgar Allan Poe might have used as an illustration for one of his stories or poems.

Weekend Reflection--the attack swan

Swans may be pretty, but I don't like to get close, since they can be very territorial and aggressive. This is an archived photo of two summers ago when I visited a town in Bosnia. Was walking Bibi on a leash and this swan spotted us from waaaaay on the other side of the lake and paddled over, honking warnings. I picked up Bibi and away we went. Swan emerged from the lake, batting its wings menacingly, still honking.

I think swans were table fare in the Middle Ages....

I've already shown you this statue called The Struggle once before, and now it seems that not only is our hero having trouble getting rid of a snake, but a defiant bird as well.

Weekend Reflection--the walker

These reflective walls are located in Tasmajdan Park downtown....they can throw you off a bit if you're not careful, or if you are a dog. Bibi barked and chased herself for a minute before she realized what was going on.... and that bird on the right looks like it may have had a close call, too.

Okay, it's part of a pier and not really a bridge today, but there are bridges nearby ...

These gulls at Ivar's restaurant on the Seattle waterfront can be rather aggressive, despite what the sign says (ha), so watch your fingers.

Was sitting at a cafe with some friends the other day and looked up and saw this sparrow's feet. Good thing the canvas was between him and us...just in case he, uh, did something....

ABC WEDNESDAY "S" is for 'Squadron"

A flock of sheep, a school of fish, and ....a squadron of pelicans? I don't think so, but that's what this formation made me think of.

I'm using scheduled posting for this, but the sky is NOT blue as I type. I liked the juxtaposition of the cloud, tree, and birds on this shot taken around Seattle's Green Lake.

Bayside still-life

While walking Bibi on the shore along Henderson Bay near Gig Harbor, Washington, I came across this still-life on a large rock. My feeling is that it was arranged and left there by a child, perhaps encouraged by a parent not wanting to have more shells at home.... Love the little pink bird.

Am still in the US for quite a while yet, attending to a family matter.

Looney?

I am not sure if this is really a loon. I watched this bird hunt for food while most of its body remained under the water...sort of like a feathered Loch Ness monster...

Anybody know for sure?

SUNDAY BRIDGES--Wise Owl meets Sassy Crow

Took this with my telephoto, so I couldn't hear the conversation between the two birds on this footbridge....but it almost looks like the owl is wondering how to answer some sassy remark from the crow.
