Sunday Bridges: Bridge Over Troubled Water

I'm running out of bridges, but not imagination. Hard to believe that Bridge Over Troubled Water (click to listen to the song) dates from 1970. I did not take the above photo, at least the original, but I did photograph the old Bookends album cover I have. Before the song's release, there had been "troubled water" between the duo, and Simon and Garfunkel parted ways in 1970.

See other bridges, metaphorical or not, at Louis La Vache's Sunday Bridges.

Reflections Weekend--HOTEL ZIRA

Hotel Zira is one of Belgrade's newer hotels, located only a short walk or bus ride from the city center. The hotel The modern offers 125 stylish rooms equipped with modern communication and entertainment technology. Our school had a conference there last year, and everything was top-notch.

So if you plan a trip to Belgrade, you will find Hotel Zira to be a good choice.

And the hotel offers a reflection for REFLECTIONS WEEKEND.

Knock 'em off...

Drab is this scene, except for the 'pretty' icicles. They are pretty, but dangerous as well. Several people in Belgrade have been injured by falling snow or icicles in the last couple of weeks. As I type this, we still have about 8 inches of snow, and some more fell today. By law, tenants or owners must clean the sidewalks in front of their buildings and knock off icicles (I hope they look first...) before they grow too long. I helped a friend get rid of these...and we looked down first....

ABC Wednesday "G" is for "golden"

Not real gold, nor even some kind of metal, or even a Golden Retriever. This dog, painted a golden yellow, adorns a large gate on a residence in downtown Belgrade. I believe that in art dogs lying down mean faithfulness, but am not sure. Anybody know?

Check out other G's on ABC WEDNESDAY.

THEME DAY-my favorite part of town

This may not really look like a part of town, but it is. Above is a long-lens shot of houseboats on the Sava River and a boat speeding to the New Belgrade side of the shore. I like this area, because although it is within a city, it seems like you're far out of town.

She doesn't mind the cold

As Alexa commented on my recent post in which I also referred to still another post of unclad females, there does seem to be a lot of naked bodies all over Belgrade, despite the cold. This one, discovered (uncovered?) in a downtown shopping mall passageway, seems not at all disturbed by the chilly weather.

You can click on her and check, but I don't see any goosebumps.

February's gone, and the groundhog saw his shadow, so spring, where are you?

Sunday Bridges--Bridge to the restaurant

Looking west from Kalemegdan Park toward New Belgrade at sunset. See the little bridge leading to the restaurant?

See more bridges, leading who knows where, at Louis La Vache's Sunday Bridges.

REFLECTIONS WEEKEND--ground chestnuts with whipped cream

Don't these cups of ground chestnut with whipped cream look good? They sell for around $2.00 each. Not a bad cake with peanuts and ground walnuts either....and that chocolate cake would be just the thing for my son's birthday today. Happy Birthday!!!

SKYWATCH FRIDAY-The theater in a church

BITEF theater is "... is an avant-garde theatre situated within a picturesque interior of a restructured Evangelistic church in the centre of Belgrade. ... its aim has been to spread Bitef festival influence which is reflected in discovering new theatre trends in Serbia, and in providing space for the artists who break traditional forms of artistic expression."

If you're concerned that a theater should not be on holy ground, this site goes on to say "The building of this edifice, financed and built by the German minority in Serbia, was started in 1940. The seal on a saved document remains as a sole evidence of the original purpose: it was meant to house a German Evangelist-Christian church. The process was brought to a standstill in 1942. As it was never either finished or sanctified, it has never acquired a status of a religious object."

BITEF stands for Belgrade International Theater Festival.

Faces Part II

This photo was second runner-up for the ABC WEDNESDAY post yesterday. Some budding sculptor chiseled out a face on a stone wall that I'd passed many times, but never noticed. When I uploaded the photo onto my computer, I found yet a second face.

Can you find it?
