SKYWATCH--Wall security

A security guard in Kalemegdan keeps an eye on things. I think. He'd better...it's Friday the Thirteenth.

"You painted for nothing...."

It's so disrespectful to deface property like in the above photo. The sign reads "You painted for nothing", which in Serbian is written as below, first in the Cyrillic alphabet and then the Latin one:

ЏАБE СТЕ КРЕЧИЛИ

DŽABE STE KREČILI

I think the writer should spend or have spent a little more time in school....he/she has mixed up both alphabets. Most of the writing is in the Cyrillic alphabet, and the letter for the R should be a P.

Shadows

Took this the other day when it was sunny....oh, how pleased I am that spring is around the corner....

I like this photo, but I think it might be a bit 'busy'....too many details. What do you think?

ABC WEDNESDAY--"F" is for "Fly"

Cheerful mural! Although there's no snow in this photo (took it a couple of weeks ago), Belgrade has been pretty much covered with snow this month. I wanted to fly somewhere....

Where would you go if you could hop aboard? France? Frankfurt? Fairbanks? Florence? Fargo?

Still green....

The Emerald City still has some green leaves... And then there's that little brown one in the lower right-hand corner to remind us that fall is here.

Art and graffiti....

Here's another cow, like I showed you here. Behind her is the now and for a long time already defunct "Beograd" department store, one of a former state-owned chain. I remember shopping for baby clothes there...long, long ago.

ABC WEDNESDAY "V" is for "vicinage"

"Vicinage" means 'neighborhood" and in Seattle you have buildings and streets and in the 'vicinage' of the mountains, you've got skiing and Bigfoot! I've been meaning to take a photo of this mural on NE 90th Street in Seattle for quite some time, but there had always been cars parked in front of it. Finally did! It's located in a very congested 'vicinage'.

No more blank walls....or gates....

Street art is popular here, as it is in many cities, as you saw in yesterday's post. This art on a preschool's gate and inside wall was most likely created by the kids (okay, the gate...) and their teachers (the wall, maybe!) and was not the result of a casual talented passer-by. Nonetheless, it brightens up the surroundings!

ABC WEDNESDAY --"H" is for "heart"

Valentine's Day is past, but love is still in the air, or so it seems. At least it's in this park downtown.... I discovered both of these hearts not long ago. The one in the foreground is an attempt to have something to put Love Locks on. I haven't been able to find out who put it there, but imagine it was the City. The locks are on, and somehow those little papers are available to write the lovers' names on.... But passers-by who must not be in love tear them off... Better to use an indelible marker....

Faces Part II

This photo was second runner-up for the ABC WEDNESDAY post yesterday. Some budding sculptor chiseled out a face on a stone wall that I'd passed many times, but never noticed. When I uploaded the photo onto my computer, I found yet a second face.

Can you find it?

"My" House #2

A while ago I showed you another house that I referred to as 'my' house, though of course it is not. This is my second favorite old one. You can see that it is in a sad state, and represents a wide problem facing many of Belgrade's older buildings. This one has not been declared a cultural monument, though in my opinion it should be. It dates from the second half of the 19th century, and was built as a wedding present to his daughter Julka by Zivojin Blaznavac, a wealthy official, and was the first house in Belgrade to have a swimming pool (undoubtedly long gone.) During WWII, Julka was forced to give up most of the home to house German officials. Later, under communist rule, the building was confiscated and split into several apartments. Despite its appearance, it is still lived in.

Theme Day-Time and ABC Wednesday "T" is for "Time"!

Well, how cool is that? A Theme Day and an ABC Wednesday that really line up.

I have shown you the center clock before, but couldn't resist adding these two other happy clocks (the one on the left is winking....).

For Theme Day, click here to view thumbnails for all participants.

SKYWATCH--The Victor's buns...

Shameful title, I admit, but I couldn't resist. Click here, though, to see why this naked statue is in this very place, and not in the originally intended location. P.S. Want to see some California pseudo-Roman buns? Click here to see what Tash posted at Palos Verdes Daily Photo.
And...just when you thought you had it all, here's a nifty little book I recently received as a present. I carry it in my purse. You get points for each kind of cloud you see, and there are lots! The ones above The Victor seem to be some sort of cumulus clouds (15 points), but I got 30 points for these altocumulus, plus another 15 because I caught them at sunset....what fun. Get yourself a copy!

Check out (and maybe identify...) other clouds (and their skies) on SKYWATCH.

The Happy Housewives

Definitely not Desperate Housewives, these ladies. This wall art beckoned me down a passageway where I expected to find pots of simmering, home-cooked dishes. Instead the menu bore only names of cocktails, wines, and beer. I can see why these 'Vesele Domacice' (VEh-seh-leh do MAH cheet-seh) are happy: lots of drinks and no cooking to do! If you read Serbian, here's their site!

SUNDAY BRIDGES-flat rectangular links

These flat rectangular links on one of the bridges over a now dry moat in Kalemegdan Park recall the shape of the bricks on the wall behind. I might add that this chain along both sides of the bridge is really low; perfect tripping height. Watch your step.

See more bridges or parts of them at Louis La Vache's SUNDAY BRIDGES.

P.S.Here's the whole bridge.

ABC Wednesday "L" is for "Lookin at you!"

Sometimes you look through your lens and something or somebody's staring right back at you. In this collage you see (and they see you!) a billy goat, a woman looking out her window, Prince Michael as wall art, and a praying mantis....not sure where her mate is, but I think he might not be around anymore....

Note: Here's another shot I took and was surprised....

See what others have done with the letter L on ABC WEDNESDAY.

Redheads on the wall

Spied these two young redheads the other day on a beautiful early fall afternoon on a wall in Kalemegdan Park. The weather is changing ever so slightly.... Now there will be Indian Summer to look forward to.

FANCY NAILS

Sneaked this shot of a girl with fancy nails, totally oblivious to me in the bus. I can't help but wonder how she types or texts with t...
