This facade in Zemun has attracted me for such a long time. Originally I had just passed along the right side of this building, and had photographed the rooftop (saving that for another post). Recently, I looked up at the part facing the corner, and discovered the inscription "Kod Puža" or "At the snail's". I have no idea of the history of this building. I Googled it, but nothing, so I will have to return to ask around. It is such a beautiful facade, and I hate to see it falling apart. Notice the initial "E" on the right of the top photo. Was the original building's owner named "Escargot"? :<)

Good luck to you in your search for information about this intriguing building!
In Downtown Santiago, we also have a curious building featuring an animal on its façade (an elephant). I was at first scared of them, but now... I find them curious. I should go one day to take photos of it (I also tried looking for info about it, but I haven't been successful).
I'm interested to know more about this building.
This is sooo cool! I used to have pet snails when I was I little girl:)
Fascinating. I hope you find the information you're looking for. I too would be interested to know the history of a building like this — and why someone would choose a snail, of all things! :)
Isn't it interesting to explore local history through photography? Looks like an intriguing place to me.
What an interesting old building, nice shots!
Snail on a tombstone? Reminds me of a tombstone I saw in the Key West cemetery that said, "I told you I was sick." If you get a chance, stop by for a piece of cake.
oh i like that snail on the building...how interesting. i've never seen one used in a building facade/decoration before.
have a wonderful evening.
Intriguing of course!
how totally strange, maybe we will never know!
And do people in Serbia eat snails too like in France...
Beautiful facade and roof top too!!
It is lovely architecture. And I think the "E" connection to escargot quite clever.
What are those statues at the roof line?
I believe the statues are of Mercury and another mythical figure. These seem to have been quite popular. I have a closer roof shot I may post a bit later, and you can see them better.
Beautiful building.
He he, that's a BiiiiiG snail!
