The wedding dress race

Yesterday on Nikola Pasic square a wedding dress race was held. Although these three girls look like they could be off to the church, they were actually three of the 120 participants ready to compete in the what-will-probably-turn-out-to-be annual 'Wedding Dress Race." Wedding dresses were supplied by the race's organizers. The lucky first-prize winner won a trip for two to Slovenia and a subscription to
"Venčanje" (Wedding) magazine. The second-place winner won a trip for two to Serbia's mountain resort, Zlatibor, while the participant chosen at the end of the race as 'Miss Wedding Dress Race" won two tickets for last night's Bob Dylan concert at the Belgrade Arena. And by the way, did you know Bob Dylan wrote a song called "Wedding Song?" I didn't. You can read the lyrics right here.

Well, weren't you just in the right place at the right time? Can't be easy to run in a big wedding dress (and I notice none of these at least are strapless)!
Wasn't that song on Dylan's album Planet Waves?

This sounds like so much fun!
I love how the girls are posing too. Great shot Bibi.
I think I would purposely try and win the Dylan tickets. I'd love to see him in concert.

That's a very different idea. Do you have a lot of young eligible runners or just a lot of dresses? ;-)

You do always seem to be at just the right place for these pics.

interesting concept for a race! I have two questions: 1. do the girls get to keep the wedding dresses? and 2. do they have to wear high heels or can they wear running shoes? ;-)

Saretta, they must return the dresses, unless of course it's one of their own, and they may race, as most did, in running shoes. Recently though there was a high-heel race, but I missed it...

They do think up the strangest things don't they?

Actually, I think maybe the middle dress IS strapless. I'd like to have the post-race dry-cleaning contract.

I wish I could have seen the one with the veil run ... I assume they wore running shoes under those long gowns ... funny stuff

What great silly fun! Gorgeous creatures, though! What are the balloons for?

This is a very nice portrait.

I wrote a song called the "Wedding Song," too. Used it at our youngest daughter's wedding. Hmmm...did that darn Dylan steal another of my songs?

They are so lovely, and I like the dappled light (and that BACKGROUND--wow!). Nice prizes they have a chance for in the race.
Have you heard of the wedding photography trend of the past few years called "trash the dress"? It's where the photographer takes the couple to not so savory or edgy locals and has them pose, say sitting in the rubble of a dingy alleyway, or has them wade out into the surf--all this while wearing their wedding clothes.
My dress is still at the back of the closet and its not something I would consider, but some of the shots do turn out pretty fantastic.
Did you get to go to the Dylan concert?

I can't imagine racing in a wedding dress! I bet it is a spectacular sight!

What a fun shot, Bibi!
No doubt there were plenty of boys ready and willing to chase these pretty 'brides'!
This must have been fun to watch!

That would have been fun to see. Nice portrait.

We really had a crazy time during this race and a great dress rehearsal for all three :-)
of course we had running shoes, I think that with heels and five layers of weeding dresses it would not be so fun for running, maybe only for visitors :-)))

Bibi thank you so much for super picture!

Girl in the middle ;-)

Hello, Ana! No problem; was happy to do it. See you again next year?? :)

SPRING FASHION

This is a post that would be better in color, but maybe not. These colors were soooo pale.
