This fellow's all for Serbia, as his bag says (in Cyrillic) and as shown by his šajkača (shy-KAHT-cha), the typical Serbian hat.

All he's missing is the national shoes called "opanci" (O-PAHNT-see). See what they look like right here.

Pat your head and rub your tummy

Can you pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time? Sometimes I can.

But I can't walk and read the newspaper, like this man.

Weekend Reflection--the walker

These reflective walls are located in Tasmajdan Park downtown....they can throw you off a bit if you're not careful, or if you are a dog. Bibi barked and chased herself for a minute before she realized what was going on.... and that bird on the right looks like it may have had a close call, too.

See other reflections at James' WEEKEND REFLECTION.

Colors, patterns, and textures

After the snow melts, a city can look really gray and dismal, especially when the sky is gray, too. A short while back, I was out on such a day, and this splash of color caught my eye. I like the different textures on the walls, too, and the patterns of the windows.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to all my blogger friends who celebrate that holiday. If you are a regular reader, you will know that I am currently in India, far from snow. I don't know if there is snow in Belgrade, and I used this photo from last year. I like the touches of red on the man's jacket and on the street light against the white snow.

An encounter

Went for a walk on Saturday in Kalemegdan Park. I stopped to take a few photos from this vantage point overlooking New Belgrade in the distance and the confluence of the Danube and Sava Rivers when this young woman approached me and asked me to take her photo. I obliged, we got into a conversation, whereupon she complimented me on my English (smile) and was amused by the irony of running across the only person nearby who was a native speaker. Her name is Lixiu, and she's from China. Lixiu (LEE-hyoo) is here on a business trip, and loves to walk. She walked all the way over from New Belgrade from near the tower you can see in the distance. We walked on, and since she was so keen on seeing more of Belgrade, I promised to take her tomorrow to see the...Chinese Market! Stay tuned!

ABC Wednesday 'W' is for 'Wow!'

I have to admit I hesitated before posting this, but this girl looked so fantastic in her bikini I had to 'treat' you to her. I don't think, no, I know I never looked even half this good. I'm glad the girl on the bike can't see her boyfriend's expression. "Wow" is the word.

Check out other "W's" on ABC Wednesday.

Addendum: Just to clarify--I snapped this photo from the hip at a safe distance, then cropped it. Her feet (she was wearing flip-flops) were not in the original photo; that's the down-side of hip-shooting! She IS near a beach of sorts, albeit grass, along the Sava River where many people go to sunbathe.

Rain boots?

I think these boots are kind of cute, but not for the icky slush and rain we've been having. Too hairy!

Cold, damp, and dark

Here I am stuck inside again. This time it's some sort of viral infection, not THE flu, so the doc says, but I feel awful. Resorting to outdoor shots from within....

SKYWATCH FRIDAY--GRAY SKY

Not a pretty sky in comparison with what most Skywatchers show, but although I changed this photo to black and white, it didn't look too much different in the color version. It was a chilly, gray morning...

Puzzling....

Yesterday's post involved a word/puzzle game, and today we have a jigsaw puzzle wall. The pieces are heavy nylon, and enclose a children's play area in a nearby suburb. Snapped from the car again while at a red light!

SKYWATCH FRIDAY--not waiting for the bus.

I was actually on a cruise boat with some friends when I took this photo. Many people now choose to walk across Branko's Bridge, rather than wait for a hot, stuffy bus.

ABC Wednesday 'Q' is for 'Quite a fork!'

A weekend trip to the country yielded this photo of 'quite a fork'. A hayfork, I believe!

Through the rear window

When being driven somewhere and finding myself in the back seat of a car alone with my camera, I do what most people (read 'City Daily Photo Bloggers) do: I take photos out the window. I forgot that I had my camera on manual when I snapped this, but I like it anyway. In the window on the right you can see one of Belgrade's pink buses...they're not all pink; sometimes it depends where they come from, since some were received through donations from nearby countries. Adds a touch of color anyway!

Almost symmetrical

I waited for another passer-by to walk in from the left, but no one ever did. It was cold, so I just snapped this lone walker and settled for 'almost symmetrical.'

ABC Wednesday. "U" is for "unusual"

Couldn't resist posting these two photos today, both taken about two months ago. Colorful, to say the least! The young girl has her hair attached with what at first looked like long stringbeans, while the lady, who appears to belong to one of Belgrade's many minority groups, fascinated me with her varigated patterns.

Patchwork wall

It's still a bit nippy here, but this gentleman is out for a stroll in Belgrade's famous park, Kalemegdan, whose name is derived from two Turkish words kale (fortress) and megdan (battlefield). Kalemegdan has a very long history, going back at least to Roman times. It was destroyed several times by invaders, rebuilt as a castle by the Byzantines in the 12th century, and in the 14th century became the capital of the Serbian kingdom. The wall behind the walker tells the story of successive rebuildings.

Qué Calor!
