ABC Wednesday---"H" is for "Haphazard head of hair"

We've all held up our cameras high and pointed them at something we couldn't otherwise see. I did, too, but forgot to pan out to a wide angle, and got this young man's head of hair..and two little birthmarks. I wonder if he knows he has them.

Ingenuity Part II

I am always fascinated by Serbs' ingenuity, and if you remember this other post of mine, you'll see what I mean.

I watched this fellow in Tasmajdan (Tash-MY-dahn) park the other day. He had attached an elastic cord to a tennis ball, and the other end to the rear (now in front!) of his baseball cap. He batted away, and while I watched, the tennis ball got him only once.

Sunday Bridges...Trajan, no wait, it's Decebalus, is watching you....

I stand corrected, thanks to Nick, who commented below. I had originally written that this was Emperor Trajan, but it is is arch-enemy Decebalus, whom you can read about right here. I'd written about GTrajan's bridge that was and will be again previously.

Kind of a spooky sight, isnt it? This mammoth skeleton was discovered near Kikinda, Serbia, and stands proudly there!

THEME DAY-Perspective--a dog's eye view

I could say that my dog, Bibi, took this photo, and from this perspective, she could have. I took this with a little fish-eye attachment and stooped way down low, Bibi-level.

Remember Geppetto, the shoemaker who created Pinocchio? The shoemaker I snapped late one evening downtown reminds me of him.

Hanging out the laundry...er...linoleum

I've seen rugs hanging on these bars in apartment house yards or private ones. People often still beat their rugs here, and sometimes these poles are used to wash rugs, too. But linoleum...? First time I've seen this!

"On the street where you live..."

Like some photobloggers, I often get requests to take a photo of some special place. Last March when I was in the US for an extended stay, Diego, a young man from Bogota, Colombia, wrote to say "...Two years ago I met a girl from Beograd, she lives in that street (Admirala Geprata 9), she is the most wonderful girl I've ever met...". Now that I'm back, I'm finally able to honor Diego's request with this photo of #9!

And just who was "Admiral Geprat"? Here's what I found: Emile Paul Guepratte was largely responsible for the reorganization and transport of the Serbian army from Greece in WWI. The Allies planned to relocate the Serbian army and all patients from field hospitals in Corfu --9,710 of them--in order to provide better care and recovery in hospitals in Northern Africa, France, and Corsica. In 1916, a total of 7,459 patients and 2,458 recruits, along with 1,500 refugees, totaling in all 11,417 Serbs, were transferred, largely thanks to Admiral Guepratte, whose kindness earned him the nickname "Serbian Mother".
