REFLECTIONS WEEKEND--wet and slippery

It's raining! I'm not sorry either, for it had been really hot and now the air is cooler. Took this photo out my window with a long lens last evening....

Blood, sweat, or tears?

None of the above in the title. Rain....but it does look like red tears, I think.

It's coming......

The sun is coming, slowly but surely..... April showers bring May flowers, and we certainly have had our share of rain in Seattle. These flowers appeared before May, but others are still late in coming.

In Seattle for a family matter.

I'm down and I can't get up...

How long does the average umbrella last? I'm not sure, but mine don't seem to last long....on second thought, perhaps they do, since I don't hardly ever carry the ones I have. I prefer hats.

There is still an umbrella repair shop here; I remember it from when I first moved here, so some people care about their umbrellas, but not the owner of this pretty red one.

Happy Birthday to my daughter

How time flies; a cliche, but so true. The older I get the more I realize you have to treasure each and every moment. Today is my daughter's birthday and much time has passed since this photo was taken of her with her big brother. I get all teary and nostalgic when writing posts like this, so I'll just end before I start, with a Happy Birthday to my (always) little girl. I love you.

"Hey! Where'd everybody go?"--Reflections Weekend

This little sparrow seems to be asking, "Hey! Where'd everybody go?" I was taking a photo of a group of sparrows with him, when suddenly they all took off...except this little guy.

Who's going to yield?

As the saying goes, "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade." For many days now, on and off but mostly on, we've been handed rain, so of course I photographed snails! (No, they did not end up on my plate.) I brought these two guys/girls (I think snails are hemaphrodites) up to my balcony for a photo. I placed them on the railing facing each other, and they 'argued' a bit about who would yield. One just slid down the side of the railing and let the other pass, how civil.

ABC Wednesday "F" is for "Fashionable"

Is this chic or what? This young woman and her elegant friend were kind enough to post for me the other day downtown. They're both well-dressed for street slush and rain. Who says people don' t resemble their dogs? (But, unlike Bibi, I do not have an underbite!)

Check out more ABC WEDNESDAY right here.

"April showers bring May flowers"...

...or so goes the saying! But hey, it's not even April yet and these flowers look more like the fully-blossomed summer variety. This rainspout next to a butcher shop on a local market was really pimped up with the kind of flowers that bloom all year long, in any weather... :)

Cold, damp, and dark

Here I am stuck inside again. This time it's some sort of viral infection, not THE flu, so the doc says, but I feel awful. Resorting to outdoor shots from within....

Rain...

This past week's weather was pretty good, considering rain had been predicted. A bit did fall yesterday, and I snapped this photo, preserving the original red and white umbrella and making the rest black and white...which is what the weather looked like for a while.

Through the rear window

When being driven somewhere and finding myself in the back seat of a car alone with my camera, I do what most people (read 'City Daily Photo Bloggers) do: I take photos out the window. I forgot that I had my camera on manual when I snapped this, but I like it anyway. In the window on the right you can see one of Belgrade's pink buses...they're not all pink; sometimes it depends where they come from, since some were received through donations from nearby countries. Adds a touch of color anyway!

ABC Wednesday "U" is for "umbrella"

Not too original with "umbrella," but it has rained recently, and it's supposed to pour tomorrow! Where's the snow?

The Honey Fair

Yesterday was the last day of the annual Honey Fair in Tašmajdan (tash-MY-dahn) Park downtown. This fair is the largest honey fair, though there are smaller ones held occasionally at different times during the year throughout the city. Several hundred honey farmers or apiarists gather in the park to sell royal jelly, candles, beekeeping equipment, cookies, cakes, mead, and of course, all kinds of honey. I bought a kilo (large jar) of almond blossom honey with the comb inside. You can see that it was raining and quite chilly, which didn't deter crowds from taking advantage of some price reductions during the last day.

Gray rainy days...

It's been so cold and rainy. I don't like to drive downtown from my side of the river, so I often use public transportation. Bus tickets cost 32 dinars each (roughly 54 dinars - $1.00) and there's no system of transfers here, so you need a new ticket each time you change buses. Those who work, elderly, and students qualify for a reduced fare. Anyway, I digress...this is a "camera-placed-on-knees-and-snapped-photo" shot, but I think it turned out rather well.

Where'd the hot weather go?

This past weekend was downright chilly! Yesterday the weather widget on my blog read 10 degrees Celsius, a 20-degree or so drop from this summer's high temperatures. I bundled up and headed for the flea market near me where I had to do some shopping (main flea market here is usually all new stuff), and covered my camera with a plastic bag....

SPRING PREPARES FOR FALL

 Title says it all!
