ABC Wednesday "V" is for "vertically varigated"

It's hard to believe these are bamboo stalks. I have no idea why they're pink.  These stood in the midst of other green bamboo stalks in a neighbor's yard here in Seattle. I should look this up...have these stalks fallen victim to some kind of blight? Off to Google!

See other V's on ABC WEDNESDAY.

ABC WEDNESDAY--"U" is for "unique"

WEll, maybe not  unique   since there may be more Pink Pentaxes, but I was immediately drawn to this very feminine camera---it belongs to this fellow's girlfriend, who was shy to pose.

Pretty in Pink

It's the April showers that have brought these not-quite May flowers...but tomorrow is May 1st...

"You painted for nothing...."

It's so disrespectful to deface property like in the above photo. The sign reads "You painted for nothing", which in Serbian is written as below, first in the Cyrillic alphabet and then the Latin one:

ЏАБE СТЕ КРЕЧИЛИ

DŽABE STE KREČILI

I think the writer should spend or have spent a little more time in school....he/she has mixed up both alphabets. Most of the writing is in the Cyrillic alphabet, and the letter for the R should be a P.

Back in Belgrade!

Back in Belgrade, just in time for a big event, which you can probably guess at from this photo of my daughter-in-law's belly. Sometime before the end of the month, our family will increase by 1. And we know what it will be, but I'll keep you guessing for a little while.....

Bleeding hearts

I loved these flowers that used to grow in my grandmother's garden. These were photographed at a nursery I visited with my daughter, who's doing some landscaping.

What's your favorite flower? And for those of you who speak another language, what do you call them?

Hug your Valentine today...

Did you say, "Awww..."? Snapped this pink pet in the bus. It was a young girl hugging it, not a child, as you might have thought.

I hope you all have your special Valentine...I lost mine over two years ago...

No pink poodles, please

I love this sign that I photographed on the bakery shop at my local market. Usually the 'no dogs allowed' signs here show a generic dog, no features, all in black. So, who knows? Maybe this shop allows others, but no pink poodles.

It takes time to be beautiful

Near where I live there's a dog groomer who works late at night in the basement in an apartment building. He may work in the daytime, too, but I never pass that way then. He's got a jazzy salon and a fluffy clientele. I love to peek through the window at them.....and sneak a photo....

ABC Wednesday--"P" is for "Poor Porker"

Went out to my daughter-in-law's grandmother's home last Saturday. "Baba Jelka" (YEL-kah) made us homemade soup with her homemade noodles, mashed potatoes, meat, her own cabbage salad, homemade bread, and dessert. This lady is a wonder. She has a number of chickens and three pigs. I'm sorry to say that despite all their cuteness, these little porkers aren't going to be around long... :( They'll probably end up like this.

See other P's on ABC WEDNESDAY.

This little piggy...

At the end of the school year a short while back there was a garage sale. I cannot resist garage sales. I bought the 'waiter and customer at the table' salt and pepper shakers, which I of course do not need. I brought them home to join some other pigs I remembered I had.

Perhaps these will all end up one day at another garage sale, if I decide to part with them.

Cactus flowers

I have no green thumb. The only plants that do well for me are those that need either a lot of water or no water. I am always pleased when one of my cacti blooms like this one did. If you remember, I 'deflowered' one of my cacti last year when my tripod fell over on it. I took no chances with this one; used a long lens and no tripod.

Today is my mother's 86th birthday! Happy Birthday, Mother! Beginning of summer, too!

Reflections weekend--Little girl in pink

Sneaked a photo (a hip shot) of this little girl down by the Sava River where she was waiting for the shuttle boat to the island in the river.

This post is for James' REFLECTIONS WEEKEND.

SKYWATCH --shades of deja vu

I must admit: I cheated. This is a photo I posted on my third day of blogging back in March 2008. It didn't attract any comments, but I like this photo and so I'm reposting it. Plus, the scene has not changed at all anyway...same beautiful sunsets and little boats. Here's what I wrote back then:

"Here's another one of Belgrade's 17 municipalities, situated along the right bank of the Danube on marshy land, with its main settlements built further from the river. Zemun (ZAY-moon) itself was built right on the bank, 100 meters above sea level. It's wonderful to walk in just about any season along the river (sidewalks being upgraded into an even lovelier riverside walk). You can enjoy the view, have coffee, a drink, lunch or dinner at one of numerous cafes and restaurants (outdoor terraces are open as much as possible!) There are several great fish restaurants in particular."

Never on Sunday...or even Saturday....

This weekend I am attending a workshop at our school....9 to 4 both days....need I say more? Even these bright markers didn't cheer me up!

SKYWATCH FRIDAY--Pink streaks!

Days are getting shorter and shorter... Recently from inside a restaurant I snapped this photo of the trails two airplanes had left on the violet sky.

New fad?

It's times like this that I really feel out of touch with fashion. I snapped this shot in a hurry while I was waiting for the light to change. This was a few days ago when the weather was still warm, but now it's gone cold on us; about time. Anyway, I have to admire the devil-may-care attitude this girl has.

This post goes out to Marie-Noyale of Larchmont Daily Photo, who posted a similar photo a short while ago right here.

Fremont is the Center of the Universe

Fremont, a funky Seattle neighborhood, claims to be the center of the universe. If you're there and want to know just how far you are from a lot of other places (or people, in Rapunzel's case...she's on the Fremont Bridge...), just check out this sign.
